The Wahpeton Huskies defeated the Breckenridge Cowboys on Monday, 8-7, in the spring border battle in Breckenridge. Wahpeton improved to 3-13 and dropped Breckenridge to 10-4.

Carter Hockert was the only Husky to record a multi-hit day, batting 2-for-4 and scoring two runs in the leadoff spot. Hockert and Aiden Hajek both doubled in the victory.

Breckenridge tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when Gabe Armitage singled and came around to score on a triple by Lawson Oliphant.

Wahpeton recaptured the lead when Aiden Jacobson drew an RBI walk in the fifth.

In the sixth, Jaxson Riggs singled down the left field line, as the Cowboys tied the game at 7-7. Riggs was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run. 

Cale Gilbertson came up clutch with a go-ahead single in the seventh that served as the game-winner for Wahpeton. Gilbertson also earned the win, as the right-handed pitcher allowed three hits and two runs over three innings, striking out two and walking three. 

Riley Jones started on the mound for Wahpeton and settled for a no-decision. The righty allowed six hits and four earned runs over four innings, striking out none and walking one.

Pinsonneault added an RBI for Wahpeton, while Braxton Heitkamp, Evan Dockter, Rylan Flack and Jones each scored a run. Ryan Braun and Hockert led the Huskies with two runs scored. Heitkamp and Braun each stole two bases in the win.

Jaxson Lopez went 2-for-5 with a run atop the Breckenridge order. Cooper Roberts, Connor Ernst and Quenten Lugert added one run apiece.

The Cowboy staff struggled with control, walking eight batters. Both teams had trouble with the wind and spring field conditions, combining for nine errors in the field.
