Stressors specific to the agriculture industry and helping farm and ranch youth will be the focus of a workshop that North Dakota State University Extension, Eyes on the Horizon Consulting in Fargo and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture are teaming up to hold from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 18.

The From Field to Farmhouse: Farm Financial Outlook and Stress in Rural Youth workshop will be held at Farm Credit Services of Mandan (N.D.), 1600 Old Red Trail.

Bryon Parman, NDSU Extension agricultural finance specialist, will open the workshop by identifying current and future issues in agriculture. His presentation, “Macroeconomics, Asset Values and Farm Financial Outlook,” will help participants recognize the farm and ranch culture and its many stresses.

Monica Kramer McConkey, a licensed professional counselor with Eyes on the Horizon Consulting and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, will present “Supporting Farm Youth Through Understanding and Intervention.” Topics will include adverse childhood experiences (ACES), developmental milestones in adolescence and the impact of stress on emotional and physical development, relationship building techniques, resources and QPR (question, persuade, refer), an emergency response to someone in a suicide crisis.
